For Fun - Signatures

Everyone has a signature, and the way it is written can apparently tell a lot about a person. Have a look at some of the famous signatures below and what some of our experts say about them.

Which one is closest to your own? Are you like the description?

Signature Meaning
Princess Diana

A rounded signature is the sign of an open and honest person. The use of shorthand (the + instead of and) may suggest someone who is under pressure from work, and the underline may suggest that a person is trying to stress their own importance.

Nigel Mansell

A signature with lots of loops and whirls can show that someone is aggressive and dominant. Basic illegibility is a sign that someone may want to deceive or remain hidden from the world.

Clearly the slant of the signature and the direction of the underline creates an illusion of speed, and in Mansells case the illusion was real on the track!

David Beckham

A right handed slant is a clear indication of a creative person who is eager to get on with people around them.

A small, compact signature is a sign of inhibition and a need for protection and safety. David Beckhams signature is the opposite of this!

The Beatles

Ringo: A right slant shows an amiable and friendly personality and an ability to communicate and mix with ease. The inclusion of the star shows a playful nature and creative streak.

Paul:  An underlined signature demonstrates a desire to show her/his importance. It symbolises a healthy ego and a need for self-esteem. When a signature deteriorates into a line, it shows manipulation and, sometimes, deviousness. The writer isn't always sincere, but can be very clever.

George: The bigger the loop, the greater the person's vanity. The triangulation of the letters may suggest a determined and frank nature.

John: The exaggerated capitals are a sign of  a dominant character who is trying to assert authority.

Did you know?

A complete set of Beatles autographs can cost upward of £5,000! Autograph collecting is big business, but is also relatively cheap to get into. You can write to many people's office and expect a signature by return of post - you do need to send a nice letter, and if you can personalise it you will stand a better chance of getting a reply!
